How was the experience?
Writing my memoir with Dan was honestly one of the most surprising and meaningful things I’ve done. I had lived in Palestine during a pretty volatile time—tension between faiths, cultural divides, a lot of complexity. I learned the language, ate the food, got lost a few times (okay, a lot of times), and lived through moments I still don’t fully know how to explain. And over the years, the memories got fuzzy—like trying to tune into a radio station that’s almost there, but not quite.
Then Dan came along with his notebook and his Jedi-level listening skills. Our interviews felt more like catching up with a friend than being “interviewed.” He asked the kind of questions that made me go, “Wait, how did you even know to ask that?” And somehow, detail by detail, the story came back. I remembered things I hadn’t thought about in years. And even better—I felt something shift. I saw that version of myself more clearly, and I felt proud of him.
Dan didn’t just help me write my story. He helped me feel it again.
And now I have something I can pass on to my kids one day—so they’ll know this chapter of my life, and where they come from. That means more than I can put into words. (But luckily Dan already helped with that part.)

Working with Dan on my transposed novel was an absolute joy. As a photographer, I’m used to capturing what I love through images—but during my travels in my twenties, I couldn’t always afford film. Dan helped me bring one of those vivid memories back to life: a fantastical adventure through Western Ireland. He interviewed me with care and curiosity, took meticulous notes, and transformed my story into a narrative that felt straight out of Lord of the Rings. I felt completely transported—like I was meeting my younger self again on the page.
The experience has made me cherish that time in my life in a whole new light. And Dan? He’s an exceptional listener, an intuitive storyteller, and made every interview session feel effortless.
